  1. We always talk about 'urban opens spaces' and public places in urban planning/design and romanticise them. sadly, we are killing the public-ness off places one by one and we are creating more and more gated communities. we want chowkidars everywhere...in front of the house, office, mall, temples, bus stands, railway station, lakes and probably the river too. it is surely going to be the 'gated' era in the history of urban public places.

  2. And I thought this (your blog) would be a place to relax my nerves... If its going to be a place for activism then I would rather prefer to visit some NGO webpage... Cheers..!!

  3. Like Ghetto, new Kankaria looks like a 'Gatto'. The obsession with gates has direct relation with 2002. Even in my smalltown Mahemdavad, huge gates like one at Kankaria emerged. Enraged by sight of the illusive security, can u imagine I ended up writing a 'Patrika' in those charged times and got it circulated by inserting in newspapers, with Bipin Shroff's support.
As Rutul rightly pointed out yesterday, many vehicle drivers would not realise there's a lake nearby.
